This disc was one of the early Ultra-Star flying discs from
Discraft. There was a star design previous to this one, but still in
the very early history of this particular disc mold. At the time Wham-O
held a patent on the rings (flight rings) that were on all of the sport
style Wham-O Frisbees. Although this was supposed to have flight
advantages, the real benefit was grip. It was very hard for Discraft to
get their Ultra-Star accepted by ultimate players without these rings.
Although the disc seemed superior to the re-tooled 80 mold it was not
until the patent expired on the rings that Discraft became there
preferred ultimate disc.
This disc has two great qualities
for collectors.
1) No Rings
2) A mistake in the
spelling of the word Professional
Although Discraft caught
the error very quickly there was a number of these discs that got into
the market place. Truly a rare find.
