On January 23, 1957 Fred and Lu Morrison signed over all manufacturing and promotional
rights for the Pluto Platter to Wamo Mfg. Co. including the mold, and all American
Trends labels and packaging as part of the deal. Soon after, the first Wham-O
Pluto Platters were produced. This disc is that first mold (WPP1) of the Pluto
Platter w/ "Wham-O" once (small) on the front of the disc. The unique story behind
this disc is that Wham-O gave Fred Morrison a number of discs as part of the deal.
Fred then turned around and put his "American Trends" sticker on the underside
of the disc and gave them away or sold them. This disc has that sticker making it one of the most unique Pluto Platters available
and extremely rare.
This is a collection of some of the first and most unique flying discs ever manufactured.
From the collection of Joel Rogers these discs are priced according to condition
and rarity of the disc. With the recent passing of Walter Fred Morrison we felt
it was timely to present and display the progression of flying disc history from
a manufacturing standpoint. This particular section are all discs from the original
Pipco mold which produced the first plastic flying discs in 1948. Although these
discs have been researched thoroughly we are always interested in new information.
